Throwback: Through Our Voices

On August 15th, 2020, Quaver Vocal Ensemble held a virtual concert “Through Our Voices”. Since our last concert “To Give, To Receive” on March 14th, 2020, we practically cancelled all rehearsals due to the Covid-19 pandemic, did physical distancing and stayed home.  This concert was planned to be performed around October. We decided to make it earlier this month because one of our beloved members, Indra, has passed the test and successfully accepted in one of the universities in Sweden. This month he is leaving Indonesia to pursue his dream. We thought that it would be wonderful to celebrate it and sing songs together before he leaves. For this concert, we started our rehearsals on June, for once a week. All of our performances in the concert were recorded live at Checkpoint Music Studio, with Covid IgG/IgM rapid finger-prick tests that have been performed beforehand.

We performed 6 songs in total, two of them are new composition from local composers, one of them is a famous German lieder, arranged by Cherly Susanti for SATB acapella.

1.     Morgen! – Richard Strauss, poem by John Henry Mackay

2.     Sei Getreu bis in den Tod – David Hermann Engel

3.     Tuhan Allah adalah Gembalaku – Gregorius Gerald Pratomo, Psalm 23:1-2

4.     Locus Iste – Anton Bruckner

5.     Sehnsucht – Johannes Brahms, poem by Franz Kugler

6.     Tentang Jarak – Cherly Susanti

The last two songs are performed in collaboration with Prajna Indrawati, a pianist who is currently staying in London, United Kingdom. The recordings were made live while using pre-recorded piano accompaniment by Prajna.

We feel thankful for having wonderful moment to sing together again.
